HypnoBirthing®: the mongan method

Calm | Empowered | Confident

Prepare your mind and body

HypnoBirthing® is as much a philosophy of birth as it is a set of techniques for achieving the birth you want. With a calm, empowered, and confident approach, birthing people, their partners, and their babies can experience a relaxed, gentle, comfortable, and safer birthing.

Affiliated with the HypnoBirthing® Institute, this comprehensive 5-week childbirth class will teach you how to prepare your mind and body for birthing.

Whether you are giving birth for the first time or want to try a new method after a previous birthing experience, HypnoBirthing® can help you prepare for the best birthing experience possible.

When should I take the class?

Ideally, you should begin your class in the middle of your 2nd trimester. However, we can typically accommodate families at almost any point in pregnancy. If you have a special situation, please let us know.

Where are classes held?

All classes are held at Sunflowers Healing and Wellness, upstairs from Bon Vivant Cafe on the 2nd floor of 2016 Mount Vernon Avenue (Suite 209) in the heart of Del Ray in Alexandria.

What else should I know?

Class is booked for 3 hours. Students sit on padded folding chairs, floor pillows, benches, or a sofa and are encouraged to move frequently during class time. Each class takes a 15-min break half way through for snacks/restroom/fresh air.

What if I miss a class?

Each class is packed with information and instruction in essential techniques for an easy, comfortable birthing. It is each family's responsibility to ensure that they attend class regularly. However, we understand that is not always possible due to work demands, travel schedules, unexpected illnesses, etc.

We typically run concurrent classes. If you know in advance that you will miss a scheduled class, you may drop in to the corresponding class that week at no cost. If you have already missed that class and are unable to attend the corresponding class, you my schedule a private make-up class for $135.

Should my partner come too?

Ideally, yes. Partners play an integral role in the birth of a child. In this class, partners will learn stress management techniques that can help the birthing person enjoy a calm, comfortable birth as well as advocacy strategies to help meet the family's birthing preferences.

Not always is the birthing person's partner the baby's father. We lovingly welcome and support all families.

Do you offer refreshers?

Yes! Private refresher workshops are available for any family who has completed a full 5-wk HypnoBirthing course. This workshop is completely customized to the needs of your pregnancy and birth preferences.

During this workshop, we will build on your existing knowledge of birth and HypnoBirthing® techniques. We will discuss your previous birth(s) and how you applied the four cornerstone techniques: relaxation, breathing, visualization, and deepening. We will also review and practice the mechanics of the techniques and close with a confidence building birth visualization and guidance for a practice routine.
